This Is What Happens To Stomach Problems When You Eat 30 Almonds A Day
You probably have already experienced those days when you are feeling bloated, constipated or suffer from diarrhea. Digestion issues are unpleasant ones and make us feel bad in our own body. Whether digestive symptoms occur to you occasionally or regularly, you can solve this problem naturally with a super-food that can be eaten regularly and will be of great help. It will provide you with numerous health benefits as well.
It is a question of almond, which is well known for its health benefits, especially for the digestion system.
Almonds have prebiotic effect and improve the digestion
The Almond Board of California funded a study in which the effects of almonds on our digestive system were analyzed. This study consisted of 14 week randomized, monitored, crossover research in which 29 healthy parent and child pairs were subjected. The parents took 1.5 ounces of almonds while children ate 0.4 ounces of almonds or almond butter per day for three weeks. This amount of almonds was added in their regular diet. Then, they went through six weeks washout period and then again the three weeks period with almonds included in their diet.
The parents filled questionnaires for their and their children’s behavior in order to track progress.
The scientists used the Healthy Eating Index (HEI) score which assesses adherence to advisable dietary guidance. Both, the parents and children increased their results to 61.4 which is over the national average (57.4 for adults and 54.9 for kids). The subjects ate more fatty acids, seafood, plant protein and total protein, while reducing the intake of empty calories. During the periods of consuming almonds, the subjects took more vitamin E and magnesium which are crucial ingredients that are deficient in most of the adults and kids.
The scientists confirmed that the empty calories were substituted with almonds which could constitute for the increase.
Moreover, eating almonds reduced gut bacteria in children as well, although they took smaller dose of almonds, it greatly impacted the gut microbiota.
The study discovered the benefits of almonds for digestion and improving diet habits, the scientists found some limitations as well. The parents couldn’t account for what their child was eating when out of their sight or at school. The results were also self-reported. This method is not scientifically validated, but the results are surely pointing out towards the numerous health benefits of almonds consummation. Further studies are required in the future if we like these positive results to be scientifically confirmed.
The Institute of Food Research conducted a study before the study mentioned above was done, where the scientists discovered that almonds increased different gut microbes like Bifdobacteria – helpful in preventing diarrhea and is also considered as good bacteria. The scientists who conducted this study explained: “these results signify the incentive effects of almond skin and almond consummation were typical prebiotic effects. Any food or substance that gets to the colon undigested is a potential prebiotic candidate.”
“50% of almond skin is made of dietary fiber while almonds include 13% dietary fiber. Dietary fiber is durable to digestive enzymes and goes through the digestive system undigested straight to the large intestine where it comes in contact with the intestinal mucosa and microbiota to boost gut health”.
Both studies found that almonds are very useful for the gut and digestion system. I hope all of this is enough for you to consider adding almonds in your diet. But you should be careful with the almonds, just like with the other nuts. They are rich in monounsaturated fats and calories, so it doesn’t mean that too much is good. Eat them in moderate amounts and you will be happy to gain the necessary benefits from this amazing food. You will notice that your digestion is far better than before.
